MY APPROACH
My practice centres on attentive listening and understanding your specific circumstances.
I focus on helping you make sense of your experiences and finding ways forward that align with your values and goals, including developing practical strategies. I create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can share your experiences at whatever pace feels right for you.
Every therapeutic relationship is unique, so I tailor my approach specifically to you and your concerns rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.
Beyond individual experience: A contextual approach
At Full Circle Psychology, we recognise that your challenges or ‘symptoms’ aren't simply personal issues to be fixed—they emerge from a complex interplay of internal and external factors. This contextual perspective helps shift from "What's wrong with me?" to "What's happening around me?"

Understanding your whole experience involves:
-
Addressing how biological, psychological and social factors (and more..) all interact to affect your wellbeing, rather than just looking at one area
-
Cultural expectations about "perfect motherhood" or "successful ageing" from media and family traditions
Support structures including parental leave policies, childcare accessibility and healthcare systems
Relationship dynamics and the distribution of visible and invisible work
Economic realities that create different experiences of motherhood and women's health
Different generations parenting advice/expectations
-
Viewing struggles as normal responses to extraordinary life circumstances rather than personal failings
This approach reduces self-blame, while creating more sustainable pathways for change.
The Expectations vs. Reality Gap
Many of our difficult experiences, particularly in new parenthood, stem from the profound gap between expectations and reality. This gap isn't a personal failing but rather the result of cultural and social messages and pressures.
What we expect:
A straightforward, empowering birth
Breastfeeding that comes naturally
A baby who sleeps predictably
Immediate maternal bonding and intuition
Quick physical and emotional recovery
Maintaining pre-motherhood identity and relationships
Balance and control in daily life
Consistent joy and fulfilment
A supportive community
What many experience:
Birth experiences that differ from plans or expectations
Feeding challenges
Decisions accompanied by guilt
Months or years of sleep deprivation affecting wellbeing
Moments of disconnection and uncertainty with your baby
Profound identity transformation requiring time to process
Feeling unrecognisable amidst new demands
Overwhelm and moments of feeling out of control
Complex emotions including grief and anxiety alongside love
Inadequate support when compassion and help is most needed
Bridging the Gap
This disconnect is where many women and birthing people struggle silently, with shame, self-doubt and grief. We address this directly, not by helping you meet impossible standards, but by normalising your experience and building authentic support for your actual journey.

SPECIALISED PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

OUR APPROACH
Therapeutic Foundations & Frameworks
My approach integrates multiple evidence-based traditions to provide comprehensive care that addresses your whole experience.
-
Developing psychological flexibility and mindful awareness to take values-aligned action, even amid difficult emotions
-
Building self-compassion and reducing self-criticism, particularly helpful for addressing shame
-
Understanding your experiences within broader contexts—family dynamics, healthcare systems and social structures
-
Exploring relationship patterns and supporting secure connections (including parent-child relationships)
-
Working with your nervous system to build regulation skills during stressful times
-
Understanding relationship dynamics and improving communication patterns
-
Examining how gender expectations, power structures and cultural contexts shape experiences
-
Recognising motherhood as an institution - a significant social and political identity that affects the mothering experience
This integrated framework allows me to address your unique journey from multiple perspectives—emotional, relational, physiological and societal. Rather than focusing solely on reducing your ‘symptoms’, we work together to create meaningful change that recognises both your individual needs and the broader environments and systems that shape your experiences.
